This album presents the legendary singer Amir Khan, whose name is synonymous to Indore gharana. Endowed with inner vision and imagination, he could take his music soaring to scaling heights. He believed in complete elaboration of a raga. In doing so, however, he never indulged in any gimmickry or acrobatic showmanship. His music thus, was rooted in a reflective grasp of the melodic mode. This album features the baithak or house concert recordings of the artiste. This album starts with a very popular late morning raga, Todi, one of maestro's favourites. In this, the drut composition sung by him is dedicated to Sufi saint Amir Khusrau. A rarely heard form of raga Shahana, in which the second note, rishabh is omitted in ascent, follows this. And finally, raga Yaman, the king of evening ragas concludes the album. |
