N. Ravi Kiran-
This is a unique production in several respects, mastered from a live concert at India Gate, an open air venue in New Delhi, India, with a few additions in Cleveland, USA. This is the first time that a whole album is devoted to a composition based on the innovative concept of Melharmony. It is not too often in contemporary world music where a single piece revolving around a single theme is presented in a single album. While this makes the piece weighty, the well-defined movements and divisions and some of the improvisation in the colourful instruments that have been featured make it exciting. The impressive array of artistes who have teamed up with Ravikiran in the production include maestro Ronu Majumdar (flute), Keith Peters (bass guitar), Neil Mukherji (guitar), Harikrishna (keyboard), Lata Ganapathy (voice), Satish Kumar (mrdangam), Satyajit Talwarkar (tabla), Adambakkam Shankar (ghatam) and Durga Prasad (pakhawaj). Besides the above, Ravikiran made a trip to Cleveland, USA and recorded specially composed sections featuring the highly talented string exponents Lenora Leggatt (Concertmaster and violinist) and Matthew Young (viola) from the illustrious Cleveland Opera orchestra, a highly respected name in Western music. The entire piece Ujjwal revolves around the theme of light. It would be no exaggeration to state that the cycle of light is the cycle of life. The composition has 3 main movements (sections) - Darkness, Light and Celebrations.
