The album features rarely heard or achop ragas by the master of rudra veena, Asad Ali Khan. These ragas are lesser heard as they were not a part of the major repertoire of a gharana. But they are as wealthy in terms of richness of form or ethos. The recital begins with raga Badhans-Sarang, a rarely heard raga with a number of variant forms. The artiste brings and depth and slow-moving grandeur to this tender, rather light raga. It is structurally close to Brindavani Sarang. The next part of the album presents raga Bhinna-Sadja. This is not syncretism in character like the others in this series. It can be described as Malkauns with all the svaras shuddha. Though similar to Malkauns in chalan and width of compass, this raga is very different in ethos. |
