Dhrupad is the oldest form of vocal and instrumental music in the Hindustani tradition and the Dagars come from one of the oldest schools of Dhrupad. In this album, F Wasifuddin Dagar, an exponent of the Dagar gharana presents raga Ahir Bhairav, an early morning raga. There is a slow undulating rhythmic interplay that ensues between sahitya or the sung text and the percussion accompaniment on the pakhawaj. It is followed by a rendition of the late night raga Bageshree. The artiste renders the alap in the traditoinal Nom-Tom pattern and moves onto express the depths of emotion through the raga. |
