Style: Dhrupad

|
Dhrupad is the oldest form of vocal and instrumental music in the Hindustani tradition and the Dagars come from one of the oldest schools of Dhrupad. Baha-Ud-Din Dagar, another supreme exponent of the Dagar gharana of dhrupad presents ragini Todi in this album. His recital on the rudra veena begins with alap, jod and jhala and goes onto complete the picture with gat in chautala. This ragini is sung late in the morning and is considered a sampoorna jati melody. The artiste plays his ancient instrument with a contemporary sensibility. |
