The awesome burden of lineage sits heavily on young shoulders. However, there are some for whom it is a sacred responsibility to carry on and even enhance their inheritance. It is young musicians such as these who have propagated and enriched our music through the millennia and are responsible for its continuum. Ayaan Ali Bangash, younger son and disciple of Sarod wizard Amjad Ali Khan, has seven generations of musical tradition behind him. The fertile imagination and faultless layakari are the hallmarks of Ayaan. He has started the album with the evening raga, Puriyadhanashri, in which he has played three gats. The next rendition is raga Rageshwari, followed by a simple Assamese folk song, Bihu. |
