Swar Utsav 2000 In the stunning open-air ambience of a specially erected stage at the Central Park in Connaught Place, some of the best and leading musicians from across the subcontinent gathered to give electrifying performances. In this five-day long festival, in the session of Songs of romance and longing, Chhannulal Mishra, father of thumri singing opens with a bol bano ki thumri in raga Mishra Khammaj, a plaintive number giving voice to the longing of the nayika. The second composition is in raga Mishra Nat. This rare composition is set to teentala. In this recording, the artiste has shown various faces and aspects of thumri, kajri and chaiti singing. |
