VARSHA
Seasons are of special significance in India and the advent of different seasons finds expression through music. Grateful souls offer thanksgiving songs, revelling in the heady fragrance of moist soil and the cooling, soothing rain. These songs are usually in the Avadhi, Brajbhasha, Bhojpuri and Khari boli dialects. Kajri, sawanis and jhoola are the genres sung during this period. These songs are not based on the various Malhars. Most of these compositions are based on raga Des, a seasonal raga of the monsoon. The album features eminent singers including Girija Devi, Shobha Gurtu, Lakshmi Shankar and Shubha Mudgal.
